The Corryvreckan Whirlpool
The Corryvreckan Whirlpool is famous around the world. As a result of the complex tidal system around the mainland and the Inner Hebrides coupled with steep underwater gradients, the Corryvreckan whirlpool is said to be the second most dangerous in the world! Furthermore, the Corryvreckan has claimed lives and boats throughout history. George Orwell got into bother in 1947, and in 1820 the PS Comet was wrecked by the power it beholds. Although the Corryvreckan is still officially unnavigable, competent local captains run boat trips here now.
